Robert Greenwald’s 2025 documentary Gaza: Journalists Under Fire exposes the harrowing war crimes of Israel against the people of Gaza and the Palestinian journalists trying to document the atrocities. It follows the story of journalists – Belal Jadallah, Heba Al-Abadla, and Ismail al-Ghoul – who were targeted by Israel and ultimately killed for their reporting in Gaza.
The film details how at least 178 journalists have been killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023, more journalists than in both World Wars combined. It shows how Israel and its supporters, including the U.S. who is funding and arming the genocide, are trying to silence anyone raising their voices in support of Palestinian lives. Though the focus on Democratic politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders feel out of place, given they have previously supported Israel arming itself, the documentary ultimately reminds us that all of us need to raise our voices. A montage of protests and demonstrations around the world and celebrities speaking out and bringing the issue to the forefront of the media help elevate the message that we don’t have to wait for politicians to do the right thing. It’s up to people everywhere to honor the journalists and all other Palestinians who have been killed by raising the alarm and speaking out against Israel’s war on Gaza.
