Amazon Workers Around The World Stand Up On Black Friday

Another annual ritual of capitalism has came and gone — Black Friday, the day following Thanksgiving which marks the beginning of the holiday shopping season. For working people in retail, transportation, and logistics, this day and the following month can be extremely chaotic and stressful on top of all of the normal pressures that people deal with. But workers all around the world at Amazon, the online shopping giant, did not suffer in silence and used the busiest shopping day of the year to raise their voices. In some 40 different countries, including Germany, France, India, Japan, South Africa and the United States, workers participated in walkouts and held demonstrations to demand better working conditions. Workers without any union support at the facility in St. Peters, Missouri courageously walked out of the facility, risking their jobs. In many of the demonstrations around the world, workers were joined by environmental groups that demanded that Amazon reduce its emission of greenhouse gases, and others that demanded that Amazon actually pay its taxes. The struggle of Amazon workers is part of the struggle of all workers!
