Since becoming President of Argentina, Javier Milei has carried out major attacks against the working-class population, including tens of thousands of layoffs, union busting, and budget cuts to social programs. Despite presenting himself as a libertarian, he has used the government to engage in authoritarian bans on protests against his policies. Those who have courageously defied the ban have included the revolutionary socialist group Partido Obrero (Workers’ Party), as well as the movement of unemployed workers, the piqueteros. In attempts to weaken the movement, their leaders have been charged with criminal offenses and their offices have been raided. In spite of all of this, the United States government continues to support Milei’s regime and its repressive policies because it wants to maintain a “stable business climate” for multinational corporations.

Here in the United States, we are also witnessing a similar serious threat to our basic democratic rights to protest, as seen with the attacks on pro-Palestinian protesters across the country. People have lost their jobs, been kicked out of school, been put on academic suspension and more. Our right to organize and protest is under attack here, just as it is in Argentina.

We must stand shoulder to shoulder with the Partido Obrero in Argentina. Their fight is our fight!
