Remembering Aaron Bushnell: “I will no longer be complicit in genocide”

It has now been a year since U.S. Airman Aaron Bushnell burned himself to death outside the Israeli embassy in Washington, D.C. in support of Palestinian lives.

Before his sacrifice, Bushnell shared these words:

“I will no longer be complicit in genocide. I am about to engage in an extreme act of protest, but compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers, it’s not extreme at all. This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal.”

To date, Israel’s war on Gaza has taken over 48,000 lives (and likely far more). Even during the current tenuous ceasefire deal, at least six more children have died from the lack of safe shelter. We shouldn’t have to feel we need to make the same sacrifice as Bushnell to fight this violent system. But there is a lot we can do by standing in solidarity, protesting, and showing our opposition to the U.S.-funded murder of Palestinian people in Gaza.

We remember and support Bushnell’s last words: “Free Palestine!”
