The recent International Transgender Day of Visibility served as a celebration for all marginalized gender identities, and a reminder of the distance still to go until we have equality for all. The Right continues to use state legislation to scapegoat trans people and the whole LGBTQ+ community. There are constant and growing attacks on our rights, from blocking medical care to banning any talk of gender in schools. The rise in anti-LGBTQ+ bills is seen alongside the rise in hate crimes. According to a Washington Post report using FBI data, “In states with restrictive laws, the number of hate crimes on K-12 campuses has more than quadrupled.”

We must fight the attacks on LGBTQ+ and all oppressed people. We need a society where people can be open about their gender identity and sexual orientation without fear of repercussion!
