Why are we, at one of the largest healthcare companies (and the largest private employer in the state), still using software that looks like it’s from the 1990s??

Mainframe, the software we use for our time cards, doesn’t allow you to click with your mouse. If you want to navigate it, you’ll need to type your responses in an elaborate series of keyboard commands. This means if you mess up one step of the process, you’ll need to close out the program and start again.

Plus don’t get me started on our clocking in and out process. Instead of badging in (like most companies from the year 2024), we must call a phone number, input our unique set of 12 numbers, and then appropriately punch in the correct number (or 3 numbers if we take an hour long lunch).

And if you mess up during this lengthy process? You likely will have to inform your manager so they can correct your time card.

We’ve got better things to do with our day than use outdated programs prone to user error. So if you’re really concerned about efficiency Kaiser, you can update our software so we can focus on our jobs!
