Elections 2016: A New Opening or Business as Usual?

Date:

Sunday, October 11, 2015 (Oakland, CA)

Two opposing voices have emerged based on the disgust that most people feel about politics today. Donald Trump, the billionaire Republican plays on people’s fears and blames the victims of the crisis for the problems people are facing.  Bernie Sanders, the independent turned Democrat addresses hopes for a better life and proposes what seem like positive solutions to many current problems. Both criticize the failure of the government to meet people’s needs. Both want us to believe that elections can change our future.

  • What is the role of elections in the political life of the working class?
  • What is the role of the Democratic Party?
  • Will the interest in the Sanders campaign go beyond the elections and lead to real organizing for social change?
