Back To School? This is Not Education!

The U.S. education system has been presented as a pathway of opportunity for every generation – especially those from poor and working class backgrounds. But it  has faced budget cuts, privatization, and the elimination of programs and services for decades. Now we are facing an additional set of crises because of Covid-19. As the Covid death toll surges past 190,000 people in the U.S., politicians have pushed to re-open schools, primarily as a means to warehouse kids so their parents can go back to work. The return to in-person classes, without the necessary testing and safety measures, has put the lives of  students and their families, teachers, staff and  the wider community at risk. Meanwhile, school districts using distance learning often lack universal internet access and laptops. During this pandemic the majority of this generation is being abandoned by those in positions of authority and power.

Join us as we hear from teachers, students, and parents about the reality of education under Covid-19, and what kind of fight would be necessary to change our situation.

The event is open to the public. Please share widely.
