Instacart Workers Protest Conditions

Date:

Instacart, a company that lets you order groceries online and have them delivered from your favorite stores, has seen a boom in business since the coronavirus has forced people to stay home. They say they will be hiring hundreds of thousands of more workers during the pandemic. But Instacart workers are protesting unsafe conditions, low pay, and no sick leave. They get paid by the job, not by the hour, so standing in long cashier lines really costs them. And they say the company doesn’t provide adequate protections, like hand sanitizers.

So they began walking off the job Monday. They are right to fight back and we should support them! It’s too soon to say what will happen. But it’s obvious that if we don’t fight back, companies like Instacart will exploit us and the virus crisis as much as they can get away with.
